ABOUT LEA LINTULA

I believe that my art is wiser than I am and comes from a wider place than me.

I am a young Finnish artist and climate activist. My artistic work gives my soul space to play in the physical world and add understanding to connections of life around me.

The internal and external are two sides of the same coin and always interconnected. Material and ethereal worlds can find intersections in my works through colors, shapes and working methods or feels while working. Processing my place and feelings in the ecosystems is a large part of my growing understanding of social connections as well. I build bridges between the mental and the physical world  in order to add understanding and appreciation to the nature as our destroyed home. My goal is to find deep connection and love to the Earth, face the demands and darksides of our social connections and share it with others.

Right now I am working with multimedia and environmental justice movements.

It has been common for me to work with different kind of media such as paintings, photographs, texts, recycled textiles and threads and natural substances. I have found that my way to make art has to sustainable and as far as I can away from borgeuois art scene. I am all the time learning my ways and techniques to try to get there.

I enjoy myself in working with collectives and in the woods= healing.

VESIHIISI ENVIRONMENTAL ART

February 2018

Environmental art 2018, Rimmilä Finland. Vesihiisi is a traditional mythic creator in Finnish mythologies. In the old stories it has meant naked woman sprite who tempts young men to waters and curse them.

This environmental school project took a place where I have had the fear of this creator my whole childhood. My grandmom used to tell me stories about Vesihiisi to avoid me to go swimming in the lake by myself. Even though I was not identified as a boy I was still sure to be tempted. As I am still a bit afraid of waters  and trying to stay strong with harmnfull temptations, I made this snow and beetroot sculpture to face my fears. And make feeling to the congregate level. The spiral has took inspiration of the Robert Smithson's Spiral Jetty (1970).

LOCUS AMONEUS IN SIBELIUS FESTIVAL

31.8-4.9.2022

This installation took a place in Sibeliustalo Lahti. The work was searhing ways to see garden in the times of ecocrisis. We where giving people a place to rest and reflect connections to non-western humans and nonhuman species through books and magical life. The space was inspirated by Aino Sibelius garden and her dedication to it.

CREATING INKS

September- December 2021

I have found it hard to make paintings with subtances like acryllic=plastic while facing the destruction of western humanlife on the planet. During the times of covid I was picing things and trying to create inks from example berries , mushrooms and leafs. This kind of working gave me also new, slower rhythm in life. The project took me a way from the capitalistic hurry and consumption.

The working was not focused to any solution or goals, but some marks of the exploration was seen in Locus Amoneus installation as well as in the paintings in KRÄKS exhibition. The explorative paintings are still changing their colours and are testing my and our culture of see paintings in a stable state in an unstable world.

This project was organized with Taike's working grant.
